Afternoon Tea at the House of Lords (Courtesy of Jenny Tonge) Sadly, as Parliament will be sitting it is not possible to have a tour of The House of Lords, but there will be time to visit the fantastic shop, which members who went last year are still talking about (it's had time to restock since their invasion!). A superb traditional Afternoon Tea will be served in the elegant Cholmondeley Room, with a terrace overlooking the River Thames. Also we are delighted that Dr. Elizabeth Hallam-Smith, Director of Information Services and Librarian of the House of Lords will speak to us about "The House of Lords – Myths and Reality". Elizabeth is a long-standing friend of The Kew Society, joining when she worked at the National Archives and also hosting events for us there. Please note that places are limited and restricted to two per member. Cheques must be received no later than 7th November, 2007 together with the application form duly completed. Formal invitations from Jenny will be sent to members of the Kew Society together with the invitation for their guests and priority will be given to the ‘early birds’. Security is very tight and once names and addresses of those in our group have been submitted they cannot be changed. Therefore any cancellations will have to be charged in full if made within 10 days of the event. Please indicate on you application whether you would like the Society organise a coach. The cost of the journey there and back cannot be finalised until we know numbers travelling but it is most unlikely to exceed £10. Note that if travelling by Underground the return journey would be during the rush hour. |
